Garmin Tom Tom and Magellan (the worst thing to ever happen to exclusive resort towns)

So you live in a wealthy exclusive resort like town... Martha's Vinyard, East Hampton, Aspen, or my recent visits to Tofino and San Juan Island come to mind. You think you are secluded by some ferry or a long dirt road or some other mental barrier that are going to keep the riff-raff out.

But then comes the GPS and every jackass (I'm one of them) with 4 wheels (or 2 for you cyclist) comes along seeming to know where they are going, not asking for directions and making no apologies for enjoying what you consider "My road" and "My town". Well the GPS has arrived and so have the rest of us exploring your little part of the planet.

And Ooops! Did you happen to negotiate the privatization of your little part of road that was built with public dollars? Well chances are that it is still on the public base maps and showing on my screen... When my lady friend says "Take next right on 'Road'", I never know where we will end up. And even worse: Sorry, this road is too narrow to turn around on and I'll just have to keep driving through! LOL

Actually, I'm pulled over at the end of your driveway right now typing this blog post. I can't apologize for enjoying my freedoms as much as you might like to enjoy yours. And please don't elevate your freedoms above mine because you spend more to enjoy it.

Nice house btw!

See you on the road :)

PS I'm in the San Juan Islands, staying in Friday Harbor, and hanging w childhood friend, JQ.
