You know when you are lonely when... #1

You walk for 10 minutes to go to the camps bathrooms and when you get there and realize that you have the place to yourself, you are upset because you won't be meeting anyone.

Well then I end up taking the other way back (all the NPS campgrounds I've been to so far are set up in some configuration of circles, looks and figure-eights). Mind you that it probably doesn't help that I'm walking by myself in silence with my headlamp off. And I come across a GMC delivery van with the parking lights on and the lights on inside seemingly unattended. I continue to pass as I strain my eyes to see and them am surprised by the sound of a single guitar cord being played at me as if to say " I am here..."

I say Hi and the voice in the shadows strikes up a tense but conversational tone. Come to find out he is a belgian green card holder who has moved from California to the Chapel Hill NC area and has basically run away (w permission) for the weekend to clear his head. It was good company and we talked for about an hour and a half (this seems to be peoples limit of me in spontaneous conversations).

All the while Max was back at camp, sleeping in the car and continued to do so until I woke up this morning. He really hates the dark or night time at camp. Doesn't matter where we are (VT to NC) and I wish I could figure it out and help him get past it. He will disappear about a 1/2 hour after dark to sit in front of the tent door or (in the case of last night) the car door. And he is determined to do everything outside of breaking a window or busting the tent wall to get in. Whining, digging for effect, and pouty faces. So I have tried giving him a headlamp before in VT and it worked. Actually almost too well, he chased shadows into the woods at one point. Anyway, we tried this again last night and he was unphased. I put his bed up on the picnic table and he laid on it for a while but still retreated to the door after some time. My only other idea is that it is temperature related but it seems like it doesn't matter what I put on him for clothes, he still wants to "go inside". Anyone want to speculate on what to do?

My overpriced and undersized scallop special plate is done and I need to catch a ferry back to the mainland of the USA. Then I think I'm going to Raleigh, but the place has been giving me bad vibes for the last few days so I'm still just 85% sure. Its mainly a function of not having a backup plan though LOL. I won't get off the ferry for a few hours so maybe something else will present itself. Either way, its probably going to be a Walmart night. I hope hope hope its a Super one that's open 24hrs :)
