Quick Update

So Kitty Hawk and the Outer Banks is going well. I'm not the biggest fan of the towns out here, but the weather has gotten good and the tourist are rolling in for easter weekend, college spring breaks and K-12 spring week off.

Max is doing well, his wound seems to be healing well. He's been running on the beach twice a day and chasing birds everywhere. Otherwise, I've gotten the car to stay below 65 degrees during the days when I've been in class.  My only gripe is his tentancy to bark at potential threats while I'm sleeping, way too early.  He's gonna blow our cover is what I'm thinking.

I have met a lot of people and had lots of 10 minute conversations. Of course I've only told some of them what I'm really up to. Usually I just say "Taking the week off and checking out [the area's name]."

Hang gliding has been a lot of fun. I'm going to take my last test today and hopefully get my Hang 1 certification. Then I'm going to get to fly more high perforance gliders off the much bigger dune (cliff) later today.
The school has been great and the trainers are all young guys and see me as a peer and not older than them. I also have been mistaken for 24ish by a few people, LOL

Accomodations: So the Hostel turned campground turned out to be not worth the time. Max was going to end up having Peacock for breakfast and I'd be in deep doo doo (see the reviews, LOL).  So glad I checked the web after talking to the guy on the phone!

So the first night I got here it was windy and the sun was already setting. Walmart parking lot. The second night was a Nor-Easter. Walmart parking lot. The third night I wanted to tent it, but the national seashore campground doesn't open April 2nd (today, hmmmmm). So I gave the local hospital's visitor lot a try and it worked! Then I tried Travellodge's lot. Worked! Then last night it was Ramada. Not a prob! LOL So the bike and the plates make me fit right in at those sorts of places.

The showers have been a probem. The beach showers have just been turned on but they are colder than the ocean. The YMCA is a possibility but I havent gotten around to aksing them. The hang gliding school staff has been slow to pick up on the hints I've dropped. And then yesterday, my hangliding classmates (three High School girls pretending to be on a College style spring break, with one damn cool mom in tow) invited me by to thier hotel room to shower. It was great! And then we all took Max on the beach for a nice walk.

I have lots more good footage of hang gliding, max on the beach and a fab sunrise from yesterday to share as soon as I have some real computer time. I've been waking up with the sunrise, and going to sleep before 9:30 for days now. My air mattress has paid for itself now (in saved hotel rooms).

BTW, if any of the 20 of you wants to stop getting my email updates, please let me know asap so I can give the precious slot to someone else, LOL
