So camp got interesting last night when 7 college kids from Colgate showed up around 4pm. I had a small fire going and they have been without stoves or fire for three nights already on their spring break outing. They had been out in the weather I had tried to avoid and now they were cold and wet even after a nice day of hiking (Mon). After dark their 8 other friends that are hiking the park from the other direction arrived. So now there are 16 of us at this hut... They are day hiking today and all joining back for another night before they separate and continue on their week long hike.
On a good note, its not a church group! LOL
The puddles that I was stepping in last night had a nice coat of thin ice over them this when I woke up. Max did a great job of trying to hang in there with just his fleece jacket and fleece sleeping mat. I added my sweatshirt to his attire but by about 3 AM he awoke in protest and joined me in my sleeping bag. I was nice and warm for all of the night to my great surprise.
Not sure what I'm doing today yet, but I think I'm going to be back here at the shelter. If I want a campfire, I either need to relocate to another one or stay here.
I'm sure there is plenty of solitude for me down the road so this curveball isn't bothering me... Yet :)
