Hite is the farthest inhabited point north in Glen Canyon/Lake Powell. Its basically a huge boat launch, a water plant, a ranger station and there a a few "housekeeping" trailers that rent for way too much a week. So its basically a Park Service town, all the residents are either employees of NPS, Aramark or a spouse. And there is nothing around for 70 miles or so.
The first day at Hite, I got really lucky. I hit it off with two rangers, that happened to be married and this quickly turned into an invitation for a boat ride, swimming and fishing on the lake afterwork, 2 BBQ's, a shower, laundry time and and and... a couch to sleep on! It was awesome. I even got to hold an M-16 LOL
I stayed the second night in Hite camped near some MIT students that were out doing "technical" climbing in the canyons around.
Fry Canyon, RT 95 in Utah is amazing! The word of the day for days now has been simply "WOW!".
Stopped in a place called Valley of the Gods. Look it up on google for photos. The whole place is like a different world altogether.
So I keep meeting cool and interesting people and they love to hear about the other people I have met so far.
So I'm off to continue the southern Utah part of the trip with a stop at the north rim of Grand Canyon. BTW, if u are willing to travel in a similar manner as me, Utah is soooo cheap. There is practically nowhere to spend your money anyway!
I do want to build a small sleeping platform for inside the car so all the sleeping surface is level. Then I can also put a few large drawers under the platform. I also sent my mom a 2nd box of "don't need this in the car" items, which includes Max's first deer antler we found just north of Flagstaff.
I'm back in traveling mode. Over the whole Vanessa abrupt departure thing. Ready to see the rest of the country. Its funny to me that there will still be some places in the US I still won't have been to when I get back east. I've seen so much already :)
Another thing... Its so easy to see how the Mormons just stopped dead in there tracks when they got out this way. The scenery is biblical (in beauty and proportions).
