So I got to about 100 miles from the border of Oklahoma and Arkansas today. I went through Mississippi, Alabama and most of Arkansas.
Totally broke the 6am-12pm rule today. I started at 730, drove until 2pm took a 2hr nap and then drove until 8. It was light here until 830 at least!
Skipped Memphis when Dave S. summed it up with "Graceland and MLK's murder scene" ("Yeah, dude. You should go!" LOL)
I'm in the Ouachita National Forest at the Albert Pike Campground for the night. How on earth do you pronounce that?!?
I met two cool guys in their early sixties from Mississippi, Randy and Floyd. They are motorcycle camping on a three day trip. They are clearly old salts at traveling across America. We talked about everything from Vietnam, to the negative consequences of Reconstruction on Whites in the South to the fact that they (regrettably so) think Obama is a one termer.
They gave me my Oklahoma map and laid out a nice scenic route for me to continue west on tomorrow.
Randy is involved with the real blues down in Mississippi and has invited me to swing through on my way back. His website is www.highway61blues.com.
I'm being serenaded by owls, yelled at by crows (that sound like baboons, and stalked by a few raccoons right now as I stand outside my car typing this by headlamp.
I'm off to take a scenic route into Oklahoma today and my goal is to get to Red Rock Canyon State Park to stay for the night. Floyd and Randy suggested it :)
Now I just need to avoid OK City.
